Rtn. S.Nagendra, the 33rd District Governor of Rotary District 3190, was born on 11th July 1956 at Kolar, Karnataka.
Personal integrity, simplicity and commitment were the basic values, which were instilled right from the childhood, by the simple, god respecting parents late Dr.Somashekarappa and Smt Vimala. Elder of the two brothers Rtn. S.Nagendra, learnt the true meaning of service right from his childhood, looking at his father attend to all the villagers providing the much needed medical service.
He had his early schooling from chikkanayakanahalli, bachelor’s degree from Kolar and masters in business administration from Mysore and additionally has a degree in Law also. In spite of his busy schedule of professional, teaching and social activities & commitments, he has kept up his academic pursuits and his doctoral thesis on the subject “Paradigm shifts in Trade Unions”, is in the process of submission.
His professional career spans nearly three decades of working with Corporate both in private and public sector – to name a few of them M/s NGEF; M/s Mysore Lamps; M/s Himatsingka Seide etc. His beliefs in team work, human excellence, coupled with unabated enthusiasm were the hall marks of his career success.
All these rich and challenging work finally lead him to choose the profession of his calling – “Teaching and Training”. Fondly called as Professor by his colleagues and students Rtn.S.Nagendra is now into full time teaching; administering institutions specifically into higher learning & Business Administration. He has served as Chairman of ‘Board of Examinations’ and is currently a member of ‘Board of studies’ in management of VTU. Presently he is the Dean of “MINDS – School of Management & Development Strategies”.
Leadership and team building skills have been his forte through out his career and have been rightfully recognized many times. Amongst the many recognitions, the one that he cherishes most is his getting the “Lifetime Achievement award” by the National Institute of Personnel Management of which he is a fellow. He was the chairman of Indian Society for Training & Development, Bangalore Chapter and he is a member of several professional institutions including AIMA. He is invited by several professional bodies including FKCCI; KASSIA etc to conduct their annual elections where he is immensely respected for his professional conduct and the election reforms he has brought.
True to himself, a job that he loves is training youngsters and for them in particular he has pioneered a ‘career skill building program’ and this program is being imparted through his own consulting firm “Bright careers”.
He has written & published about 20 technical papers in HR & strategic management, which have appeared in several national and international publications. He has presented technical papers in management institutes like IISc; IIT Bombay; IIT Kozhikode etc. He has also penned and published a book on “Entrepreneurship & Management” which is amongst the prescribed study material for 5th semester students of Engineering at VTU.
His Rotary interest dates back to his college days, when he was recognized by the Rotary club of Kolar and continued because of participating in a Youth Exchange Program to Ahmedabad during 1977 and working behind the scenes in organizing the first Consumex – Rotary consumer exhibition.
Rtn.S.Nagendra says “he did not even think twice, before accepting the invitation to join Rotary” by Rtn.Sundaraswamy of Rotary Bangalore Vijayanagar in 1987. He soon became the president of this very club during 1990-91 and as expected the club was adjudged the best club in the district. He joined Rotary Bangalore High grounds as its charter member during 1995 and from then on he is nurturing the club. He has served the Rotary District 3190 in various positions including that of District secretary, District Treasurer, District Director International Service, District Director Vocational Service and District Conference Chairman. He has been a trainer, facilitator at Rotary Training Programs from last 18 years. He was selected to be a member of Carl Miller Discovery Grant Team, which visited USA & Canada.
Amongst all these, what is notable is his love towards Training activity – having participated in more than 200 RYLAs as a guest trainer, having participated in large number of empowerment & awareness programs of Rotary – talking to clubs particularly out of Bangalore clubs in Kannada
Rtn.S.Nagendra is supported by an equally talented and competent partner – his beloved wife Smt. H.C.Sujatha, who has keen interest in Interior designing. She was the president of Inner Wheel club of Vijayanagar during 1992-93, when the club was recognized as the best club. They are blessed with a daughter Annette Vindhyashree who is into her final year of schooling now.
The couple is generous in their philanthropic activity and both of them are Major Donors to Rotary Foundation, while daughter Vindhyashree is a Paul Harris Fellow.
Rtn. S Nagendra is guided by his personal philosophy "Individual growth through Organizational growth" and his mission for Rotary is 'Service thro' empowerment'.
